What is the Protein diet?
Protein diets focuses on increasing the level of proteins in you food intake, while drastically cutting down in the amount of carbohydrates. This means that foods with sugar, starchy vegetables, grains and fruits are not allowed in the diet. A protein-based diet is well known for its ability to reduce pangs of hunger and induce the feeling to eat less food.
Protein is very essential to help in the growth and repair of your muscles, bones, skin, tendons, ligaments, hair, eyes and other tissues. It helps to provide the enzymes and hormones necessary for metabolism, digestion and other important processes. High-protein diets are mainly recommended to build muscle and loose fat.
A person on a protein diet will have only bacon and eggs fro breakfast. The breakfast must not include any toast or juices as these contain carbohydrates. Lunch could mean some salad, with a double cheeseburger (no bun here). Dinner is full of proteins from the choicest of meats, which you can have till you are full.
Protein diets are popular because they help a person to loose weight quickly. This is because during the course of the protein diet, you drastically cut down on the amount of carbohydrate intake. When the amount of carbohydrates is reduced, you body is forced to use the carbohydrates stores in liver and muscles to maintain a normal blood sugar level. Carbohydrates encourage your body to store water and cutting down on them makes your body to retain less water, thereby helping you to loose water weight.
Some of the most popular high protein diets are ‘Atkins Diet’, the ‘Zone Diet’, and ‘Sugar Busters!’. One problem with protein diets is that it contains a lot of meat and cheese intakes and this can be quite unhealthy for the body in the long run. The diet can also cause kidney problems because the amount of carbohydrate intake is too little.
