What is the Fat flush diet?

The fat flush diet was devised by Dr. Ann Louise Gittleman. This diet addresses some of the most important factors contributing to excess weight such as eating habits, healthy liver, stress and excess insulin and much more. The diet not just focuses on reshaping the body, but also on how to detoxify the body.

Through the diet, you will learn about what kind of fats you can include in your food intake, rather than just restricting yourself on fat altogether. You will also know exactly how much carbohydrate and proteins you require.

This diet has about three phases. In the first phase, which lasts for about two weeks, your diet plan will focus on how to cleanse your liver and maintain it in a healthy condition. According to Dr. Ann Louise Gittleman, most people have tired and toxic livers and in this phase, these issues are addresses. Your diet during this phase will provide you with about 1100 to 1200 calories per day. You need to avoid foods such as margarine, alcohol, sugar, oils or fats (except flaxseed oil), grains, bread, cereal, starchy vegetables, dairy products. The aim here is to help reduce not just fat, but also reduce water retention in the body.

In the second phase, you can slowly add carbohydrate foods to the diet. These carbohydrates are foods which won’t make you put on weight- eg brown rice. You diet will have about 1200 to 1500 calories. The aim of this phase is to help you reach your desired weight level.

In the third phase, which is the weight maintenance phase, dairy foods and some starchy carbohydrates foods are introduced into your diet.   Your calorie intake increases to about 1500 calories.

In all the three phases, powerful proteins are included such as lean meat, eggs as well as omega-3-rich fats such as flaxseed and evening primrose oil. You will find spices such as ginger, cayenne, and cinnamon as well as fruits and vegetables in the diet.

It’s not just the diet alone, that’s emphasized. Dieters are required to sleep well and do exercises. They should also maintain a diary on how their diet is going on as it progresses.

Dieters are introduced to what is the fat flushing concepts through this diet such as no mixing of vegetables and fruits together, or milk and meat together, having only one protein item per meal and so on. This makes them conscious of what they eat so that they can learn how to maintain their weight in the long run.
