A look at the Janet Jackson diet
The Janet Jackson diet is named after the fabulous pop diva Janet Jackson. The diet regimen she underwent is famous for enabling her to loose about 27.2 kilograms of weight (about 60 pounds) in just a period of four months. Before the diet she was quite overweight. In an interview with Shape magazine, Janet said that she lost excess weight and now maintains her weight at an optimal level, through the combination of a great diet and exercise routine.
Her trainer and nutritionist Tony Martinez put her on this diet, which consists of three different phases.
In the first phase, Janet had to take liquid meals specially made for her by her trainer. During this phase she could take two solid meals every day. These meals contained protein, carbohydrates and fat. The liquid and solid meals were complemented with nutritional supplements and herbs.
In the second phase of the diet, Janet’s trainer introduced some more solid foods and calorie intake. At the same time her intake of nutritional supplements was reduced.
In the third phase, free foods such as vegetables, berries and frozen yogurt was introduced.
After successfully completing the three phases of the diet, Janet’s weight really came down. She also had to undergo a strict workout routine, which was also designed by her personal trainer. This workout included toning her legs by doing reverse lunges, good mornings, toe touches, and leg press pushing back at a 30-degree angle. Exercises for toning up her upper-body included doing push-ups, pull-downs, chest flies, biceps and triceps supersets and shoulder lateral raises. Added to all this was three days of abdominal training and five to six days of cardiovascular exercise such as kickboxing, basketball, tennis, baseball, jumping rope, and running.
The main reason why the diet worked for Janet was because she strictly did what her trainer advised her to do. One of the most difficult things she had to give up due to her diet was milk and cheeses. Once a week she has a cheat meal because she can’t totally give up in her favorites – French fries and desserts.
